Hi again,

I think I found the problem. It was occuring because the link text has newline character like this:

Free domain

so, I added to your code the following line:

$haystack_source = str_replace(“\n”, “”, $haystack_source);

before:
## get our links

now everything is working great. Thank you Derek very much for this sweet algorithm.

Hi Derek,

This is not the problem I was referring to. The script some how failed to detect my url on some websites like this:

http://www.test.com/online-tools/77/

I think I will need to trace this problem to see what is going on because it doesn’t make sense. It should work correctly, right?

Hi Tony – it’s obviously not a very robust script. One thing that needs to be done is input validation. If someone enters the inputs wrong, it will fail.

Also, like I mentioned in the “what else” paragraph, if you are trying to get too many sites (and too much data) your script will probably time out. This could also happen if the remote server is unresponsive. To solve these problems, you could change your php config files to increase “max execution time” and program some error handling exceptions for if the remote server isn’t responding.
